The GHHS relies solely on private donors to fund all of our programs and services. We do not receive any federal tax money and we are not affiliated with any other humane organization in the United States. When you donate to the GHHS your money stays in the community and helps displaced pets in the city of Huntsville. Not only does your monetary donation help unwanted and orphaned pets find new homes, it also helps rehabilitate injured animals, educate the public about pet overpopulation and provide help for those struggling to keep their pets.
In addition to making a general donation, you can also become a recurring friend, create a memorial, pay tribute to a friend, family or pet by honoring them by name or donate to a specific program.
We have many programs, such as the Stephen Charles Saseen Memorial Fund, King’s Community Kitchen and Marcie's Fund (Sponsor a Special Needs or Long Term Resident Pet). This program helps special needs animals recovering from various illnesses living at the Greater Huntsville Humane Society. Marcie's Fund helps shelter pets being treated for heartworms, fractured limbs or other debilitating diseases. Friends of The GHHS
When you become a recurring friend of the GHHS you become part of a special group of individuals that help further our mission. As a friend of the GHHS, you choose the sustaining donation amount and how often you would like to give. You may choose one of the friend levels listed below or an amount of your choosing.
- $35.00 = Humane Advocate
- $60.00 = Constant Companion
- $120.00 = Shelter Guardian
- $500.00 = GHHS Protector's League
You also receive special discounts at our shelter retail shop, a twenty dollar discount on birthday parties, and special announcements and invitations to GHHS events. With your sustaining donation as a friend of the GHHS, you help us meet their needs and provide shelter until a new home is found. Become a GHHS friend today!
Sponsor a Special Needs Pet through Marcie's Fund
This program (formerly known as Adopt to Help Adopt) is specially meant to help those animals at our shelter that need additional medication(s), immunizations, veterinary and other special treatment and care. Marcie's Fund was created in honor of a injured dog named Marcie (now called Mavis) who needed special care and inspired our staff, volunteers and community.
Quite often, special needs animals, like Marcie, stay with us longer than usual and your financial
support help defray the cost of their care while lving at the shelter.
Sponsorships are available to individuals or groups (i.e., schools, churches, clubs) and are also appropriate for in honors and memorials.

Create a Legacy through your Planned Giving!
Your love for animals can create a legacy-one of sheltering and caring for displaced pets. When you put the GHHS in your will you put thousands of pets in your will. Each one to be fed, given medical care, and loved until their permanent home is found.
There are several ways you can make charitable gifts which benefit GHHS shelter pets and will create a legacy for you.
Please remember that the animals rely soley on YOU for their financial support, as the GHHS does not receive funding from any organization or local, county or state entity!
- Charitable Gifts: These consist of cash, securities, personal property, life insurance or real estate given either while living or through your will. Tax laws generally favor charitable giving and your gift may result in substantial tax deductions.
- On-line Giving: Pledging fully deductible repeat contributions can be convenient for your and help GHHS with budget planning.
- Wills or Living Trusts: This excellent donation choice lets you maintain full use of your gift assests during your lifetime; your gift may substantially lessen your estate's tax liability.
- Stocks and Bonds: A year end portfolio review may allow you to select those stocks that have appreciated substantially. You can take a deduction for the full market value.
- Real Estate: Rather than selling real estate that has appreciated in value, it may be donated to the Humane Society. By deeding it directly to the GHHS, you may be entitled to deduct the full market value.
If you would like to make a gift to the Greater Huntsville Humane Society in your will, you may consider using the language below:
I give and bequeth to the Greater Huntsville Humane Society, a not-for-profit corporation, with principal offices presently located at 2812 Johnson Road, Huntsville, AL 35805, the sum of $ _____, to be used for the accomplishment of its general purposes (or for a specific program or purpose as indicated)
All donations must be completed by December 31st in order to take a tax deduction in that tax year. Please consult with your tax advisor on Planned Giving.
Combined Federal Campaign
For members of the CFC, you can donate directly to the GHHS through automatic deducations from your salary. For more information conduct your Human Resources or Payroll Department and provide them with this number 34794. Your payroll donation is tax deductible and helps feed, spay/neuter, provide vet care and temporary shelter for hundreds of pets.
Adopt-A-Kennel
If you make a donation in the amount of $1000, you can choose to Adopt-A-Kennel. We'll place a customized plaque in the kennel you have chosen to sponsor and you will also become a member of the GHHS Protector's League.
